  • 8 in. bar
  • Auto oiling

Intended Uses

This pole saw is ideal for pruning applications and cutting limbs up to 8 inches in diameter that are overhead.

Special Instructions

So many…read the Instruction Manual first!! And:

  • Fill the bar oil receptacle with bar oil before operating the saw!
  • Do not let the chain touch anything other than wood!!
  • When putting the saw down, place it bar-side down–it will weep bar oil
  • When not using the saw, empty the bar oil receptacle or it will leak oil everywhere. And tie the provided rag around the saw head!
  • Wear a helmet and gloves when pruning limbs with this tool
  • Be aware of nearby hazards–power lines, etc.
  • Know where the tip of the saw is at all times to prevent it touching things and kicking back!
  • Requires a 5/32 round file to sharpen chain (If you think the chain is dull, bring the tool back to the library and a librarian will sharpen it!)

Kickback, What Is It?

  • When the bar (and chain!) kicks up and back toward the operator in a lightning fast reverse reaction. Two common ways this happens:
  • When the nose/tip of the bar touches an object
  • When the kerf cased by the cutting pinches the bar

To avoid kickback:

  • Know where the nose of the bar is at all times and don't let it contact any object while the chain is moving!

Instructions

To operate pole saw:

  1. Push the saw head module and handle module together, slide the threaded sleeve as far as possible, and  rotate the sleeve clockwise to tighten.
  2. Fill the oil reservoir. Check the level of oil often and refill anytime it dips below the ¼ full 'mark.'
  3. Attach battery to handle module.
  4. Don't saw angry :)

To check/adjust chain tension: Do you need to adjust tension?? There shouldn't be any sag in the chain, but the chain should be able to be pulled from the bar with your fingers about an ⅛ inch and snap back when let go. If it's too loose or too tight:

  1. Detach the battery
  2. Loosen the two hex head bolts (12) on sprocket cover (11)–don't remove!
  3. Rotate chain tension screw (19) located at the front of head clockwise (to tighten) or counter-clockwise (to loosen).

When finished sawing: remove battery and pour remaining bar oil into measuring cup (provided), then into bar oil receptacle. Remove the sprocket cover, loosen chain tension, remove bar and chain, and brush out woody material and wipe excess bar oil.

Tie the long rag around the saw head and bar oil reservoir to prevent bar oil from getting everywhere! Thanks!
