Intended Uses

Used for removing freewheels, typically occurring on older model bicycles. Bicycle component manufacturers who produce freewheels each have a particular tool for removing them.

What is a Freewheel? According to Park Tool: “Older bikes may have a large external thread machined into the hub. The cogs and ratcheting body assembly, called a “freewheel,” threads onto the hub. The ratcheting mechanism comes off with the cogs when the freewheel unthreads for removal.”

Special Instructions

These items are for removing the freewheel, not cassette lockring removal!

Please use a skewer or axle nut to hold the freewheel remover tool firmly in place when removing the freewheel!

Double check that the remover fits exactly onto the freewheel before you begin wrenching on it--splines on the remover can easily be broken if the fitment isn’t right. And there are many more freewheel designs than the number of removers in this item set.
