Description
Guardian Power Products 5 Speed Heavy Duty Drill Press (DPMINI 5(CC)). This is a heavy duty table top drill press with external motor, though it's only heavy duty compared to our hand drills. Any machinist would tell you this drill press is for light duty applications! You can 'feel' your way as you drill and adjust the pressure you exert on the feed handle.
This item's features include:
- 5 speeds
- 8 in. swing
- 2 in. travel
This item also comes with a chuck key.
Similar to: Drill Driver
Often used with: Clamps
Intended Uses
Used for precision drilling into wood, metal or plastic. Use this drill press when you need to drill a perfectly perpendicular hole in your material and when a hand drill just won't 'cut' it.
The spindle travel is 2 inches, meaning the vertical distance the drill can travel, is 2 inches. Another way to look at it is that a 2 inch thick piece of material is the most you can drill completely through.
The 'swing' is 8 inches (distance between drill column to the center of the spindle times 2), represents maximum width of the material you can drill in the center
Special Instructions
Changing the drill speed: Please ask us how to change speed with the belt drive at the library or watch the video below (or do both!).
- If the bolts on the pivot side of the motor need to be tightened or loosened (to shift motor in order to change speeds) it takes a 12 mm wrench.
Remember: use slower speeds for drilling metals, faster for softer material like wood. The drill is on the fastest speed when the belt spans the top pulleys, slowest when the belt spans the bottom two pulleys. It's geared just like a multi-gear bicycle :)
Chuck key: The chuck key is held on by magnets to the base of the drill press.
Important: Use clamps to secure material to the table while you drill for safety and quality!
