Description

Makita 4-1/2 in Angle Grinder (9524NB), corded. Much like our other Makita 4.5 inch angle grinder, but a skosh smaller. An angle grinder cuts materials with a grinding wheel and can accept a variety of grinding and metal cut-off wheels that are 4-½ inches in diameter. A side handle can be inserted on either side for more control.

This angle grinder’s features include:

• 5 AMP motor with 11,000 RPM 
• 9 ft cord
• 3.1 lbs. 
• Slide switch with lock-on for continuous use
• Side handle can be positioned on both sides for operator convenience
• Push button spindle lock for changing wheels

This item comes with a lock nut wrench (to change wheels), a side handle, and a tough case.

Intended Uses

• Angle grinders can be used with a variety of wheels, depending on the job:
• Wire cup brush: Cleaning cement, rust off garden tools, for example
• Metal Cut-off wheel: Cutting metal bars, rods, and bolts
• Diamond wheel: Cutting tile, stone, and concrete
• Grinding wheel: Removing heavy rust, sharpening blades, removing metal, generally
• Diamond tuck point wheel: Grinding out old mortar
• Flap disk: Removing smaller amounts/shaping metal (or for sanding wood very aggressively)

Special Instructions

• This grinder takes 4.5 inch wheels
• When grinding, have the wheel at about a 15-30 degree angle to your work surface. When cutting, make it 90 degrees! 
• When using the thinner, depressed center wheels, make sure the adjustable wheel guard is in place–the thin wheels can shatter once they start to wear down!
• The lock nut secures the wheel/disc to the angle grinder spindle and can be placed two ways–see Diagram, below, to determine the orientation of the lock nut for different wheels.

Instructions

When installing grinding wheel/Multi-disc (thick wheels) the lock nut’s flat side should be facing up:

For cut-off wheels, flap discs, diamond wheels–any wheel that is very thin–there is a flat, textured lock nut–this textured flat side should lie against the wheel. (The inner flange can only be secured one way, so if it’s wobbly and loose, it’s the wrong way!)
