Makita Planer (KP0800). This handheld corded power planer allows you to shave down wood stock very incrementally, by .1mm (or 1/256ths of an inch, I think??), if you wish.
Features of this item include:
- Planing width: 3.25 inches
- Planing depth max: 3/32 inch
- 6.5 Amp; 17,000 rpm
- 8 ft cord
This item includes: (blade gauge assembly), 9 mm wrench, guide rule, and a hard plastic tool case
Also known as: power planer
Similar to: Jointer, Belt Sander
Intended Uses
While there are a few ways to operate the planer, the most common use is to shave off small flakes of wood from your stock to create the exact thickness of your workpiece/make a nice flat, consistent surface on your workpiece. You can also take a cup or twist out of a board with this tool.
Other 'shop moves' you can do with this planer (these are all explained with pictures in the manual, below):
- chamfering cuts (bevels)
- rabbeting/shiplapping cuts (steps)
Special Instructions
Let the cutter get up to maximum speed by placing the front plate on the material to be cut, before proceeding to push planer forward to initiate cutting. And cut in small increments at a time!
The aluminum base plates are aluminum–make sure there is nothing on the surface of the wood stock you're cutting that can mar it and that you don't set it down on something harder and pointier than it. Thank-you!
Keep everything (including your hands) away from the cutter when in operation! The blade is very fast and very sharp!

Instructions
To adjust depth, turn depth adjustment knob (also the front handle) to line up the depth (printed on the knob) with the arrow on the body of the planer.
When starting a cut, place more weight on the depth knob and less weight on the handle. Conversely, when finishing a cut, place more weight on the handle and less weight on the depth knob.
The little plastic doohickey located at the back of the rear baseplate is the 'foot' and springs forward when the planer is lifted off your workpiece in order to lift the cutter off the surface that you place the planer. It will move out of the way automatically when you push the planer forward to begin cutting!
